Removable media is any type of storage device that
can be removed from a computer or any type of electronic
device.
Removable Storage is Portable
These devices are typically portable like USB drives, CD’s, DVD’s, external hard drives, and memory cards. These types of media allow users to store data on them and move them physically.
How is Removable Storage Dangerous?
Removable media is dangerous in many ways like they can spread malware to
devices if the media is infected. You could lose something like a USB drive then someone can pick it up and now all the data is theirs. Hackers can use removeable media to extract data from devices or to infect certain people’s devices. Most removable media that is used dangerously is being used by people that are extracting data from others or they are infecting or deleting data/files on people’s devices.
How Can Users Safeguard Their Devices?
A few ways to help protect yourself from this is to only use removable media that you know is safe, scan removable media before you insert it into your device, and try not to lose your removable media.
